: As I said in response to your comments, "figures" brings to mind the geometry of star constellations, not of individual stars. Chandrasekhar speaks of "ellipsoidal figures of equilibrium."

The problem with the figures of stars is that it can be construed as shapes of star constellations such as the Big Dipper.

In your discussion you use shape and yet diagree with its use.
Same in English. It's not "star figure" but "equlibrium figure / figure of equlibrium" (of a star, galaxy etc.).
