Spanish term

establecimiento vivero en la práctica

Spanish to English Science Forestry / Wood / Timber Cooperative - cocoa production (Nicaragua)
Dear colleagues:

I need some assistance with the phrase "establecimiento vivero en la práctica". I realize this may be simple for some, but it is to string it together cohesively. "Vivero" is nursery, while "en la práctica", one meaning being "in practice", but somehow the Spanish wording is throwing me, and not quite gelling.

Thank you so much for your assistance.
Regards,
Taña

I have suggested the term 'practicum' before and no one likes it, but it's commonly used in educational circles, including vocational schools. Here are some good examples:

Taña, I understand it means that nothing grew during the practicum, which was a class in how to establish a nursery.

By the way, practicum is in the Oxford dictionary as well:

practicum - Oxford Dictionaries
www.oxforddictionaries.com/us/.../practicum
OxfordDictionaries.com
home · British & World English; practicum ... practicum Line breaks: prac|ti¦cum ... A practical section of a course of study: a teaching practicum is included.

I'm wondering if my fellow doubters have had much experience with vocational training. I got into horticulture as a passion and a sideline. I've attended two community colleges for studies in landscape design, and they both have 'practicums' in their class catalogs.
Note from asker:
Thanks so much, Muriel. I inadvertently forgot to mention that it is UK English. What is throwing me is , and it speaks to (perhaps a very literal translation) "We extracted 3 pounds of mahogany seeds, but there was no growth during **the nursery establishment practicum** or the **establishment of the nursery's practicum**. I must admit the Spanish is poor in many section, but it appears a bit disjointed. I dunno? Thanks.
Thanks again Muriel. I must admit, I am one of those as a UK-English speaker that I "detest" the word practicum. However, given your expertise in this area, which is not mine, I will bow to your more experienced authority on this subject matter. Thanks again. Taña

agree Jennifer Levey : Like it or not, that fits very nicely in Taña's context.

Thanks, Robin!
neutral philgoddard : UK readers won't immediately understand this, though they could probably work out what it means.

I know. Everyone on ProZ hates the word, but it's very common here.
