That is exactly what I mean, liz; cortamente posicionadas as too close to the cornea: "valves rather close to the cornea/limbus". I offer a different approach also; the tube of the AGVI extends from cornea to the valve itself but also from tip to cornea.

Me explayo un poco más por si sirve.
El Ahmed glaucoma valve implant consiste en una válvula, acoplada a un plato que se posiciona en el exterior del ojo, ligada a un tubo de drenaje que se inserta en el ojo para drenar el humor acuoso (en glaucoma).
Cortamente posicionadas, referido a las válvulas, parece sugerir que estas (las válvulas propiamente, esto es, los dispositivos que se fijan a la esclera, en el exterior del ojo) están situados a poca distancia (a menos de la habitual; cortamente) de la córnea (de la salida del tubo en la córnea). Esto es, la porción externa del tubo es algo corta.
También podría aludir a que el extremo del tubo (interno) está algo cerca de la córnea (lo que tiene implicaciones clínicas por lo que resultaría tal vez más relevante su mención, aunque sea menos obvio a la exploración y el fraseo resulte algo ambiguo si fuera este su sentido).
Por ello planteo como traducción valves rather close to the cornea, en referencia al sentido explicado en primer lugar; tubo (externo) algo corto; válvula más cerca de la córnea de lo habitual.
