OK, since I'm getting no agrees, here's some more suggestions.
"Carta" can sometimes be translated as "letter", but I don't think that's appropriate in the context. It can also be translated as "chart", and a Google search for "engineering chart" gets more than 1/4 of a million results. However, without further information, I still think that my original suggestion is probably the best option.

Which is why I didn't want to use "report", because I figured there had to be another word for it. But "engineering letter" doesn't sound right to me, so I think I'll just go with "engineering report" for both. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a particular type of report with a particular name. Thanks neilmac!
