ICES-6 Explanation: CIEM es la abreviatura de Conseil International pour l’Exploration de la Mer Es el equivalente de ICES: International Council for the Exploration of the Sea. The only available comparable data from the 1982, 1992 & 1997 Total Diet Studies (TDS) were for a group of 7 PCB congeners known as the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) set. The ICES PCBs are a selection consisting of congeners 28, 52, 101, 118, 138, 153 & 180, one of which (138) is a dioxin-like PCB. It is not possible to compare other congener sets or individual congeners, as there were differences in reporting and a large number of non-detects. In general levels of PCBs in food have declined but for some food groups such as offal and fish 1997 TDS values are highest. However, it is not possible to draw conclusions due to the small number of samples tested.
