Swedish term
30-stämmiga orgeln
Swedish to English
Other
Music
Classical/organ music
I understand that a set of pipes which produces a given timbre is called a "rank" and a "stop" is a component of a pipe organ which admits pressurized air. I see though, that there is such a thing as a "30 stop" organ and a "30 rank" organ. So I wonder which is a "30-stämmiga orgel". Am I right in assuming that "tre ännu ljudande stämmor" refers to "ranks" and so this is a "30 rank organ"

30-stop organ
I'm quite sure it is called like that in English. Google some info about organs, but I'm almost sure about the translation.

UPDATE: Ok, you can also translate that like "30 pipe organ" (which, as far as I understand, is the same). "Sounding pipes" (or "sounding stops" - a less frequent variant) exist, I'm sure about that.

Note from asker:
Hi - Thanks for your input. You don't think that the term "rank" is relevant here then? |

As you said, it's the combination of a number of pipes and the wind flow through them that gives each rank its "timbre". The stop is the mechanical device that opens and closes the wind flow to the pipe or rank.
