Hi Rebecca,
As an alternative to remote control (which I agree with), "remote switch" might work too.
To reply to your second question ("what for?") if would be used for 'firing' the x-ray.
If the text advertises hospital/clinic services, it wouldn't seem to make much of a difference to a patient, but there you go!
