Spanish term

actitud expectante

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general) Clinical Reports
This phrase appears in the hospital report of a patient who had surgery for esophageal cancer (in Spain).

'Dada la tórpida evolución del post-operatorio y el accidente ... que sufre el paciente ... se decide *actitud expectante* y nuevo TAC-PET ... "

The DRAE says about 'expectante' = 'que espera observando' but I don't understand this. ¿Cómo puedo traducir 'actitud expectante' aquí?

Discussion

Biomed Sci May 20, 2009:
Found this as well in relation to "wait and see approach" from www.cancer.gov: "Some doctors take a “wait-and-see” approach, holding off on radiotherapy until clinical signs indicate that the cancer is progressing"
Yasser El Helw May 20, 2009:
Also David's "wait and see approach" is also valid.
