What makes many golf courses so special is they way they fit into their local environment. Coastal links courses with their short turf, **tight lies**, pot bunkering and dune ridges are immediately distinguishable from parkland courses. But if the links courses had lush fairways similar to many parkland courses, their character would be lost. Making sure that the nature of the course fits the surrounding environment is also why so many long-established courses retain high quality wildlife and environment.

Easy to see what they mean (on the coast you get more bare patches) but can't come up with term ("gefährlich enge Ball-Lagen"?) Maybe a golfer can help:
tight lie: Any lie in which your ball is sitting on bare dirt, very short grass or similar position in which there is very little grass beneath the ball.
tight lie: Any lie in which your ball is sitting on bare dirt, very short grass or similar position in which there is very little grass beneath the ball.
