Hola,
estoy traduciendo un diploma de una universidad canadiense y me aparecen tanto "chair" como "president". Me gustaría saber cual de ellas se traduce como "presidente" en este caso y cual es la diferencia de cargos.

yo dejaría "presidente" para el "Chair" y al "President" de la universidad le llamaría "decano", que es lo habitual en España

Comment: "Me he decidido finalmente por estos dos términos porque "decano" debería de ser "dean", ¿no? Creo que así cubre bastante el término."

Como no son equivalentes los sistemas educativos, habria que hacer la distincion que estoy sugiriendo.

otra opción quizá para distinguir bien los cargos dentro de la Universidad...

Sí, tienes razón... aunque aquí en este link creo que utilizan rector y presidente como sinónimos.
