If by chair you mean chairperson, then presidente is the usual equivalent at least in my line of work (non-profit sector).

Hi again Angela. Since the standard translation of 'steering committee' is "comité director' (in Spain at any rate), I think you'd be ill advised to use "director" instead of president, as that would leave you with "Director del Comité Director" - see what I mean?
