Discussion

Fuad Yahya May 26, 2005:
After squashing the question, the asker provided the following context:
I'm translating a book about the Prophets. It says
"Saul knew he was a descendant of Benyamin who was a weak asbaat from the 12
asbaat...."
Ziad Marzouka May 26, 2005:
I am so sorry Atikah, but since you wrote the term is English I assumed you wanted its equivalent in Arabic. Thanks Nisrin you were right.
soamo19 May 26, 2005:
Ayatnya apa?
Nesrin May 26, 2005:
It may well be, but without any context at all, it's impossible to tell.

Asker\'s added note:

\"Saul knew he was a descendant of Benyamin who was a weak asbaat from the 12 asbaat\"

should be \"... who was a weak sebt from the 12 asbaat\": (a weak tribe of the 12 tribes)

Samuel (Shamuel) was once the ruler, he was from Laui (Lawi) tribe, also related to Aaron (Haroon -brother of Moses). He asked God for a King to unify them because the tribes were fighting, and God chose Saul (Sha\'ul, Talut) who was from Benyamin Tribe. The latter tribe was a weak one exhuasted with continuous fighting and about to extinct. When they asked for a sign that Saul should be the King, the sign was that he would bring the covenant, and so on

agree Nesrin : Yes you're probably right (didn't notice that Prophet Dawud was mentioned as a context). But I think the asker was right to post it as Ar>En originally. He probably needed the English translation of the Arabic word.

the twelve sons of Jacob

Surah 2 , verse 136:

{Say [O Muslims]: “We believe in Allah and that which has been sent down to us and that which has been sent down to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and to al-Asbaat (the twelve sons of Jacob), and that which has been given to Moses and Jesus, and that which has been given to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we have submitted [in Islam].”}
