Damit ist die erste bzw. letzte Zeile eines Absatzes gemeint, die entweder allein für sich am Ende oder am Anfang einer Seite steht.

In Programmen wie Word gibt es die so genannte Orphan/Widow control = Absatzkontrolle, die verhindert, dass eine einzelne Zeile unverbunden, also alleine steht.
