simple payback period
"Návratnost" in Czech corresponds to two terms in English, which should not be confused:
Return on Investment (ROI) - simple, discounted, compound (discounted and compound are two different things) = how much will I earn, if I make the investment? Example: (gains - investment costs) / investment costs = ROI (x100 = in per cents).
Payback period - simple or discounted. It is the amount of time it will take to recover the investment. Freuquently used in relation with invetments in energy saving. Example of calculation: (investment costs) / (energy cost savings per year) = payback period in years.

The new system would pay for itself over five years
I think that's the natural English way to say it. It probably disregards interest, so that's why it's "prosty".

: This corresponds to the natural Czech way to say it: Nový systém by se zaplatil během pěti let.

Dear Igor, just noticed a typo in "Break-even Analysis" for which apologise. Suffering from a more severe variant of 'Bank Holiday weekenditis" :-)
