Good communication skills are good rapport skills, and they start with paying close attention to the staff member. The secret to establishing rapport is to show the staff member that you understand him or her, and to create a sense of familiarity between you. This needs to be done on both the conscious and unconscious levels. Essentially, this means matching the staff member, in some way, in either language or behaviour. There are many ways to do this. Some are obvious and some are extremely subtle. We call the matching process itself: PACING.

I was a NLP trainer a few years ago, and my colleagues and I used to call it the "copycat technique". ;)
Pacing is a NLP technique to establish and enhance rapport. Essentially it involves 'going along with' what the coachee is doing at the time. For example, if the coachee is speaking softly the coach speaks softly. If the coachee is enthusiastic and gesticulating a great deal, the coach matches these behaviors.

协调
译为‘同步’也是对的。但‘协调’意思更为清楚。
协调（Pacing）：尊重他人的价值观、需求和风格，从而与之建立起友好的关系。在此过程中要特别注意什么是对自己和对他人都很重要的东西。

我觉得“pacing”原意是调整步调的一个动态过程，而“同步”只是完成调整后的一个状态，因此，应加上个“协调”来传达其完整的意境。
