Talking about the effects of cadmium exposure on mice sperm:

Con el microscopio electrónico tanto la cabeza como el cuello de los espermatozoides son aparentemente normales, con el acrosoma ocupando toda la zona afilada apical y parte de la rostral (Figure1). Pero la alteración más significativa se localizó en la zona de transición entre los segmentos intermedios y principales, que se caracterizó por la persistencia de una gruesa gota de citoplasma, evidenciándose zonas amorfas con restos de retículo rugoso y mitocondrias. La presencia de esta gota citoplasmática se da prácticamente en todos los espermatozoides modificando la trayectoria y por tanto, cambio de sentido entre los segmentos intermedios y principales

It's literal, but it may work just fine.

sentido = direction

Another option for "por tanto," which may sound better in this context, might be "thus."
