Spanish term

focalidad neurológica

Spanish to English Medical
…es importante valorar la edad, el sexo, y la sintomatología acompañante como forma de aura, lagrimeo, fiebre o focalidad neurológica (meningitis, migraña, encefalitis, abscesos etc..

Discussion

Neil Ashby Feb 5, 2020:
There's a difference between a "neurological focus" and "neurological focality". How can you assess ("valorar") neurological focus where the potential options are (meningitis, migraña, encefalitis, abscesos etc..)? But you can assess neurological focality - where the potential neurological causes are (meningitis, migraña, encefalitis, abscesos etc..).

neurological focus

The 'focus' is a far more commonly used term than 'focality', whether in medicine or not.
When one looks for a specific area - perhaps in the brain or other organ, they 'focus' upon a 'focus'. That is they are looking for that area that is affected.

Although I agree in part with MJP above, along with Barbara, 'focus' is the more commonly used terminology.

neutral Neil Ashby : This doesn't work here "focalidad neurológica (meningitis, migraña, encefalitis, abscesos etc.." >> "neurological focus (list of examples of neurological focality)", so clearly it should be "neurological focality" followed by said list of examples.

sorry, I have misplaced neurological - should read \"fever or neurological focality\"

agree Barbara Thomas : focality also refers to a lesion that can be pinpointed, e.g., abscess, etc.
