Discussion

Sam Berner (asker) Apr 13, 2007:
Thank you all. I showed it to the client and he chose Fayez. I liked Yasser's too :-)
Fayez Roumieh Apr 12, 2007:
Alaa Zeineldine Apr 12, 2007:
Ali (sp?) is not sure, but Google found other references to معركة عض الأصابع in a Palestinian news site, so maybe it is a Shamy expression.
Sam Berner (asker) Apr 12, 2007:
I cannot be sure, Ali. It is a very poor transcription, full of spelling mistakes, so it could be عد. That would definitely make it "tit-for-tat", wouldn't it?
Alaa Zeineldine Apr 12, 2007:
Are you sure it is not عد الأصابع?

The biting of fingers /Who-screams-first.

I tried my very best in googling to find out what the closest meaning was. I came up with the expression above.

He conquers who endures

It's a hit where it hurts. Thus, he conquers who endures (he who undergoes, overcomes)
