I am looking for an appropriate British English translation.
This is from a report on microfinancing. I assume the meaning is parts of cities which have problems in some sense, but not as specific as "deprived areas" or the like.

Context:

"3. La clientela de (French microfinancing association) tiene orígenes diversos: zonas urbanas, barrios sensibles, zonas rurales, etc. La asociación está muy presente en los barrios sensibles donde se concentra el 18% de las personas microemprendedoras financiados en el 2005."
