El investigador se comunicará y realizará un seguimiento adecuado

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general) clinical trials (new drug)

Discussion

Lia Fail (X) Jun 12, 2007:
If you view paragraph 2 as an extension of (which it must be, as it follows on from) sentence 1, note the reference to the sponsor being informed when values do not return to normal. This is monitoring (during CT) and not follow-up (after CT).
Lia Fail (X) Jun 12, 2007:
I stand by my interpretation. I also think it's about "monitoring" and not about "follow-up" post-CT. It is DURING the CT when the patienst are being administered with a drug that might cause abnormal values (as per your 2nd senetnce ..."luego de...")

agree JaneTranslates : As you've already said, "follow up" in this case shouldn't be hyphenated. "Contact" is exactly the right verb choice!

disagree Lia Fail (X) : "comunicará el seguimiento" no "a los pacientes"/ follow up as a verb carries no hyphen

"se comunicará y realizará un seguimient" , i.e. will contact the patients to follow up on them. 9-year experience in translation and backtranslation of Clinical Trials and ICFs. Cheers, Karina ;)

My interpretation of this is that all the patients who obtain significant (in teh stats sense) values in the analyses should be suitably followed up and the corresponding data should be notified, although to whom I can't say, but probably to the sponsor via the CRFs.

In reponse to Karina's response to my disagree, I see her point, but I too have translated many clinical trials, and I have never seen a specific mention of "contacting patients for follow-up", as why bother being so specific in a text for experts. They are available (with contact details on record etc) except when they are rated as "lost to follow-up".

ALSO, I'm beginning to think that "seguimiento" is not "follow-up" but MONITORING.
