English term
damping installation
English
Tech/Engineering
Mechanics / Mech Engineering
Forging system
This was found in a German forging system operation manual.
The original text was "3.4 The fall arrester carriage must be kept fat-free due to the damping installation".
The sentence was found in the "Manintenance" chapter, and was one of the listed articles.
For me the words "damping" and "installation" never match each other. Therefore, I have no idea for the meaning. Does anyone know, or can guess?
Please give me a help.
Thanks

The EN is poor and smells of a dodgy translation!
'fat-free' is almost certainly meant to be 'free of grease'!
By 'damping', I assume they mean some kind of damper or shock-absorber (which might be prevented from working correctly by the unwanted presence of grease)
I agree that 'installation' is not a common collocation with 'damping' (though a perfectly feasible one), but it's also one of those odd words that often gets put into a translation to replace something fairly vague like 'device', 'mechanism', etc.
This 'damping device' could well be something like the 'shock-absorber' or more properly 'suspension damper' on a car.
The only way to find out for sure would be to go back to the German source text.
