certain information available at a portal that persuades users to abandon Notes ...

Three parts in the phrase:

a. Notes Compete initiative: a Microsoft (MS) marketing program to lure away users of IBM Lotus Notes to be users of MS products, in this case Microsoft Unified Communication.

b. Field Portal: MS showcase where customers can place their info; it is meant to help MS promote customer products

See this for ref under Marketing Benefits: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/vsx2008/products/bb964515.a...

c. Targeted Resources: certain information specifically placed to persuade or convince.

English term (edited): notes compete initiative

MS's Lotus Notes migration initiative

This apparently involves a campaign by MS to get users of Lotus Notes to switch to and/or start using MS products.

See e.g.

Upon arriving, we assembled an amazing group of people focused 100% on this initiative, consisting of Program Manager’s, Testers, Developers & most notably, a cross company virtual team consisting of resources from across the multiple product groups. In addition, with 50++ yrs of Notes expertise in the team, we no longer think of Notes Compete as just an “Exchange problem” or consider “rip and replace” a viable option (historically something I was told we’ve done). But rather, for customers running Notes wanting to leverage the value of the Microsoft Collaboration Platform, our approach is centered on helping the customer seamlessly make the technology transition to their desired end state - which could equally be a COEXISTENCE and/or a migration approach.
