What confuses me is that it is a name of a department in the company. So you can imagine how many times this word is used within this "American" company.

Yes, but there "advance" is properly used as a noun. In the context you give, it isn't.

advanced?

I think "advanced" would make more sense, meaning the more complex and elaborate forms of the design of interiors and components.

Just guessing. Maybe meant as the "dernier cri" or "the very latest" in interior design. Something like it.
