Hello. It is from a test. I don't see the connection between the two sentences
"I maintain high standards of performance even though I am very quick to forgive"
I understand this : "At work, I always have a high performance, but I forgive very easily". I t doesn't make sense to me. How do you understand it?
Thank you
Luca

This person has high performance standards. If things aren't done in accordance with these standards, he/she doesn't consider them done properly. However, it isn't a case of "make one mistake and you're out the door". This person is willing to forgive mistakes but still considers them mistakes.

The person maintains high performance standards, i.e. he/she fixes high performance standards for other people (he/she is a supervisor) and ensures they are followed (perhaps by correcting the mistakes) but doesn't abruptly fire people for not meeting them.

Hello Paul! Thx for answering. Probably I was getting confused with Italian. To have standards here means to "have expectations". It doesn't mean that the person talking does things in an excellent way, right? |
OK Paul, I reread the sentence but still don't get the connection. If I have high levels of performance in a job, why should I be concrned with others' performance and should I forgive them? Forgive them for what? :-D lol Thx! |
Maybe I got it. My problem was with maintain. Probably it means "I FIX high stadards of performance FOR OTHERS..." What do you think? |
