German term

Magisterprüfung

Christine

Master's examination

Not necessarily an MA - it could be an MSc, MBA or something else at the same level.

neutral Robin Salmon (X) : I think you have to help the asker by providing the best answer for her context. She says it refers to a "Magister Artium"; that's the Latin name appearing on the cerificate for my degree, which is an MA.

you're right, I hadn't taken in the question in detail
agree Ken Cox : Robin's right, but 'Master's examination' is a good general term, and it would be used in this case unless there is a specific reason to emphasize the fact that it is a MA instead of some other type of Master's degree.

MA examination

Some universties require a (smaller) dissertation and an examination, having the same weight as an MA with a (larger) dissertation without examination.

This examination could also be for an M-degree in another field, as answered by Armorel, but I guess it was for the Arts MA because of your other question.

MA

You could say "on being awarded my Master of Arts" but most people would say "on receiving my MA".

My own degree is a "Magister Artium" but, as a Scottish degree, it is not even an Honours one (it is called an "MA Ordinary" degree). It is like an English BA but the level is a bit higher. Of course, it can be completed at Honours level.
As I understand it, you have to have an honoiurs degree before being accepted for a Masters degree course.

agree Nicole Y. Adams, M.A. : on being awarded
