Spanish term

bocinilla

Spanish to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
This is from a biography of a Panamanian boxer. He'd married a girl, but she was extremely jealous and they argued constantly, and he was getting tired of the situation:

A cada rato me exhibía en la calle. No quería "bocinilla" de oro para vomitar sangre.

Any ideas?
Proposed translations (English)

Elizabeth Joy Pitt de Morales (asker) Oct 13, 2008:
More context Here's more of the context:
Estaba cansado de tantos ultrajes, incomprensiones e inmadurez. A cada rato me exhibía en la called. No quería "bacinilla" de oro para vomitar sangre. Hablé con (trainer's name), le explicaba mi situación de esposo. Los celos la mataban y la condenaban.

Yes, "bacinilla" makes sense here. I'm translating from a .pdf scan of a very poor photocopy of a text that was probably written on a typewriter years ago...very difficult to decipher at some points.

Thank you all for your assistance. Without doubt, I could never have figured it out on my own. Thanks, kudoz colleagues!

beggar's bowl or small chamber pot

According to above usage it is referring to the target terms given. However, is "correctly spelled as "bacinica or bacinilla". Notwidthstanding, as it is spelled "bocinilla" is a derived word from the word "bocina", which stands for speaker as used in electronics. So "bocinilla" is none other than a small speaker.

Continuously showed off on the street. I didn't want a golden beggar's bowl to vomit blood.

Bowl appeals more and is better applicable to those items (bowls) used for cooking and not spitting, vomiting or urinating.

bowl

just an idea, maybe it should have been "bacinilla," a small pot or bowl in which to vomit blood?
