Eine kurze Umfrage bei uns in der Redaktion hat ergeben, dass sich keiner mehr so recht erinnern kann, wieso diese Formulierung in die allgemeinen Hinweise aufgenommen wurde. Ich schlage vor, wir lassen es einfach weg. Der deutsche Satz heißt dann: "Es ist entsprechend sorgfältig auszuwählen und besonders zu schulen."

I'd like to see some machine translation handle THAT one!

legal framework With Cox, depends on target jurisdiction which may ask for a written acknowledgement of the employee of training/instruction received. In German "Verpflichtung" carries a substantial legal implication, so use of this term necessitates careful checking of background before a translation can be selected.

comment Two thoughts:
1. How you approach this depends on the size and nature of the machine, and whether there are any legal regulations related to its maintenance (which may differ in the jurisdiction of the target audience of the source and target documents).
2. This is probably a (corporate) cultureal issue. I can imagine that in some companies, particularly where critical hazards are involved, maintenance employees may have to sign an agreement to abide by the rules (possibly in connection with completion of a training course), but otherwise I'd be inclined to agree with milinad's suggestion -- pick them, train them, and get their commitment.
