Spanish term

ponerlas en la tabla o pantallas

Discussion

Raquel Dominguez Dec 15, 2008:
You don´t need to read Conan Doyle to become a translator, but it helps, doesn´t it? Now that the problem is solved, I think that these poor workers are providing entry data for other employees (number of mirrors, for example).
spanruss (asker) Dec 15, 2008:
Okay. The company itself makes mirrors for vehicles. I don't know if that really helps us determine what the "tabla o pantallas" are though.
spanruss (asker) Dec 15, 2008:
I asked the client if he knows what kind of work they're doing. In the meantime, I ran across one barely literate section that talks about how "...a las gentes se le can la piezas de las manos por el frio que hace allí...." I guess she's trying to say that they can't hold onto the "pieces" because their hands are so cold. This seems to contradict the theory (that even I shared) that they are some kind of data entry computer workers. Oh, the context we translators are forced to do without!
Raquel Dominguez Dec 15, 2008:
I really think you should ask the client. If the work involves computers, this could affect the salary. Edward´s suggestion is quite valid but it could turn out to be incomplete.
spanruss (asker) Dec 14, 2008:
Unfortunately, no, I don't see anything else related to the actual work they do there.
Edward Tully Dec 14, 2008:
It would be helpful to know exactly what the people were making...any information later in the text?

As the text is dealing with the unfairness of piece work under labor laws and doesn't mention the product, maybe a general description will do...

Don't really understand the "very little time to decide" part, as ProZ.com gives several days for the asker to decide, also rdom agreed with my answer and I used his/her suggestion in my glossary entry - I think that tables/spreadsheets is obviously wrong from the context.
Note from asker:
I'm not too fond of the way ProZ is now awarding points automatically with very little time for the answerer to ponder and decide. I happen to agree with rdom above that they're talking about tables or even spreadsheets on computer screens. And that's what I put in my translation.
Peer comment(s):

agree Raquel Dominguez : According to the latest data, perhaps "on the table or on the screen"?
