stay of proceedings

"ONTARIO WOMEN'S JUSTICE NETWORK - Glossary
...
stay of proceedings:
Sometimes the judge will decide not to continue with a trial. This is called a stay. The accused person is free to go, but the charge has not been dropped or withdrawn. Proceedings could be started up again at some future time under certain conditions."

"WIKIPEDIA
Stay of proceedings
A stay of proceedings is a ruling by the court in civil and criminal procedure, halting further legal process in a trial. The court can subsequently lift the stay and resume proceedings. However, a stay is sometimes used as a device to postpone proceedings indefinitely."

(Pause in Proceedings) TRIAL COUNSEL: We will not be. Thank you. THE COURT: Are you asking the Court not to instruct based upon the possible ...

adjournment of a trial

In law, adjournment means to suspend proceedings to another time or place, or to end them.

Takodje, koristi se i prilikom odlaganja postupka:
E.g. Counsel was not prepared for trial, so she requested an adjournment of the trial until a later date.
Peer comment(s):

disagree Kristina Kolic : odgoda suđenja i mirovanje postupka ipak nisu ista stvar

Slazem se - zato u objasnjenju i stoji "to suspend", tj. mirovanje (u ovom slucaju)
