Spanish term

instrumento (in this context)

Spanish to English Social Sciences Education / Pedagogy
This is from a final report on a diploma course given 3 times over as many years. This section talks about the technical modifications that were made to the course during the 3 years.

• Propusimos mayor participación en la plataforma, para que el instrumento fuera un articulador del trabajo global. En el último diplomado una ex alumna de la generación anterior fue la moderadora de la plataforma. Esto permitió que la comunicación fluyera de manera eficaz.

My draft:
We proposed/suggested greater participation on the platform so that the medium/instrument (?) would be the facilitator of the overall job/work/task.

Thanks for any input.

Discussion

I have new information... the platform mentioned is a virtual learning environment. Does that make it any clearer?
patyjs (asker) Jan 30, 2009:
It might help to know that the course in question is on young people, sexuality and rights.
patyjs (asker) Jan 30, 2009:
I'm afraid the only clue is the sentence that follows which mentions the ex-student. I'm guessing she was the instrumento in that instance.
Monica Colangelo Jan 30, 2009:
en mi opinión, lo que no queda claro es qué significa "instrumento", con lo que se hace difícil sugerir una traducción. ¿No hay ningún tipo de aclaración sobre el significado?

so that "it" (or "the medium") could articulate

The instrument here is the platform. I read the verb as to articulate, meaning "to join together diverse moving parts". One common educational use of this verb is in "articulating a curriculum".

agree Calimon : I agree with "instrumento" being the plattform, as I've seen that word used in that context before (instrumento is also used for legal procedure here in CR). "...greater participation on the platform so that IT may be..."

As I understand it, the original author is referring to a means of doing something.
