: to cycle through: the bolt or breech is pushed forward (thereby turning) into the chamber. this doesn't apply to shot guns.

Sorry, you are wrong.The term to cycle through is not limited to bolt action rifles but can be applied to any firearm. It is even used for handguns very regularly. Sorry for the typos earlier, my keyboard is giving up.
