私は__の代母(代父)です。
As a (lapsed) Japanese Catholic, I can tell you that I¥'ve never heard the term godson used in conversation or in newsletters, etc. Instead, we talk about being one¥'s 代母 (daibo = godmother) or 代父 (daifu = godfather). In your case, I¥'d say, ¥"私はカイの代母です。(watashi wa Kai no daibo desu),¥" or, ¥"I am Kai¥'s godmother.¥" This is immediately understood among Japanese Catholic people, but not among others. So if the family to whom you¥'re introducing your relationship isn¥'t Catholic, I suppose you have to explain the concept. 名付け親 (nazuke oya) only really applies to the person who named the godchild, which is not really what godmother/godfather is in most cases since the person¥'s name is usually picked out by someone else already....
