I believe it has to do with animals raised in stables or confined but I'm not sure what we call this in English. TIA!!

"Confined" or "in confinement" These are the standard terms. Often it is for purposes of feeding, but there are other commercial advantages as well.

Estabulada does not mean indoors or housed, it is still in the open air but in smaller areas.
