German term

Wurstschinken

German to English Other Cooking / Culinary Meat products
From the company history page of a firm producing high-quality meat products from the Black Forest:
----
----

It does seem possible that the '-' after Wurst in "Wurst- und Schwarzwälder Schinken' is a typo., but I did find a few relevant references to Wurstschinken on Google, e.g.: "Der als Vorspeise servierte "Chefsalat" bestand aus alten kleingeschnittenen Eiern und Wurstschinken, offensichtlich hergstellt aus den Resten vom Frühstücksbuffet und ein wenig Lachs.". http://www.holidaycheck.de/hotelbewertung_archiv-Hotel Calyp...

So, basically a process similar to making sausages, that ends up in a ham-like product? The best I can come up with is 'processed ham', but this hardly conveys the quality image that the company wishes to convey. It seems to me that Wurstschinken doesn't necessarily mean a low-quality product, but I can't think of a 'pleasant' sounding English term. Any ideas?

TIA, Stephen

Likely a typo Since Schinkenwurst is very specific & not your typical quality product, I'd check back with your source re poss. typo.
Non-ProZ.com Mar 31, 2009:
@Andrea - Thanks, yes I agree it is possible, and listing sausages in general does seem to make more sense. I think this is worth double checking with the client in any case.

Re: Kielbasa - Sorry, I have no idea, I have heard of neither Wurstschinken nor Kielbasa, but it looks feasible. I would imagine that Kielbasa is just one type of Wurstschinken though.
Andrea Winzer Mar 31, 2009:
RegineMac Mar 31, 2009:
Is that the same as a Kielbasa? Check out: http://www.recipetips.com/glossary-term/t--33770/polish-saus...

(Of course, this only applies to the States...)

Sausage

This company makes produkts from pork and beef! From part of the pork/beef they optain fresh meant, from other parts they produce sausages, and from other parts they make ham! Term refers to Wurst- weiterverabeitet! The German writer combinded Wurst-und Schwarzwälder Schinken verarbeitet -as in these products were used to produce sausages and Schwarzwälder Schinken!
