Italian term

casseria

Italian to English Other Mining & Minerals / Gems
I've looked but have not been able to figure out what this is!
Sentence:"Il progressivo ampliamento della miniera aggiunse altri fabbricati agli impianti indispensabili alla lavorazione del minerale (la laveria, la casseria e la fonderia). "
Anyone familiar with this term?
thanks :)

Hy Nyteck, is this an iron ore mine? You've classified it under "gems" which doesn't look too apt for a "fonderia". Wouldn't want to melt diamonds down, unless you're trying to push the price up.

Proposed translations

crating section (bay)

The word 'casseria' is related to the words 'cassa', 'cassero' etc. I would suggest the text refers to an area where the minerals are placed in crates or containers of some kind.

An idea.

(ore) crushing plant

I am quite sure that it refers to the part of the operation where the ore is crushed before being processed further. It is probably a bastardization of the French " casserie" see link below.http://books.google.ca/books?id=yj4KAAAAIAAJ&pg=PA190&lpg=PA...
