This is very complicated for me:

It is estimated that for every 7 patients given thrombolysis treatment within 3 hours, 1 extra patient will leave hospital with minimal or no disability. That is, one more than would have done so otherwise.

According to my understanding, in a sample of 7 patients given treatment after 3 hours, one more patient develops more serious medical complications than in a similar sample group of 7 patients who get treatment within 3 hours.

Example..
Without the treatment in a 3 hour period there may be just 2 patients leave the hospital
But..If 7 patients are given the treatment, within 3 hours there is one more.. 3 patients who leave the hospital. So the treatment works on one in seven patients over a 3 hour period.
so for every 7 patients who receive the treatment over a 3 hour period, one of them is well enough to go home. 21 patients, 3 cured.
This is one more cured than if no one received the thrombolysis (thrombosis) treatment and they used conventional (non Thrombosis (blood clot)) cures.

Basically, it is what Kathryn(please see below) states: treat within 3 hrs=(n+1)/7 minimum or no side effects. Treatment after 3hrs=n/7 minimum or no side effects. i.e. treatment within 3 hours has a 1/7 medical benefit against disability or side effects.

My hasty interpretation confused you, I'm going to hide the answer.<br>Explanation: x patients leave hospital mostly cured, if they are administered thrombolysis treatment. Now, if you administer the treatment *within 3 hours*, you get x + 1 patient leaving the hospital with minimal or no disability, for every 7 patients.

If the Treatment is given within 3 hours of the occurrence of the blood clot (thrombosis) out of every seven who receive the treatment one will be returned to good health and six will still be ill.

But it the treatment is administered to the seven patients after the 3 hours after the blood clot occurred,(3.5 hours) than you would loose that one person and there would be no persons cured out of the seven.

So you loose the chance to save this one patient in seven if you don't give the treatment to patients within the 3 hour period after the blood clot occurs.

Don't be confused by this, as all the patients leave the hospital, it is just that the number who have Minimal or No Disability out of every 7 who leave hospital increases by 1, if all the patients receive the treatment within the 3 hour period of the blood clot event happening.
