What is wrong with 'one-armed' etc.? I am frankly puzzled as to why there is a problem with using 'one-armed', 'one-legged' etc if this is what the context shows to be correct. For example the following newspaper article:

clutch lakabının bugün kullanımına bir örnek olarak eski bir NBA oyuncusu olan Reggie Miller'ı verebiliriz. NBA tarihinin en iyi üçlükçülerinden birise "clutch" lakabı veriliyorsa bunun çolaklıkla bi alakası yok demektir.

Sure there are none Sözlük karşılıkları açısından çok haklısınız. Unabridged Webster’da da böyle bir karşılık yok. “Çolaklık” bildirmesi açısından birçok sıfat kullanılabilir. “Disabled” belki bunlardan biri olabilir. Ancak ben biraz lakap gibi düşünmüştüm (çolak bakkal vs gibi). Yani, ‘çolak’ ne demek bilmeyen birine bu adama neden ‘çolak’ diyorlar diye sorduğunuzda: tek eli yok, tek kolu yok, baş parmağı yok, serçe parmağında insanı ürküten bir deformasyon var vb. gibi cevaplar alabilirsiniz ama bunların hiç biri tam anlamıyla ‘çolak’ yerine kullanılacak ibareler olmaz. (‘serçe parmağında korkunç deformasyon olan bakkala git’ demeyi düşünün ‘çolak bakkala git’ demek yerine. ‘Cripple’, öte yandan, ‘sakat’ anlamı olsa da, daha çok bizdeki topal gibi. i think Tim is right so far as concepts are concerned. However, for people who have disabilities especially with their hands, the word ‘clutch’ could be used in a [i] similar manner [/i].
