agree Alexander Kondorsky : If it were "скорее нет, чем да" the meaning would have been the one you think, but the meaning of "более чем нет" is, if translated literally, "more than 100% negative"

thank you, I think though that "highly unlikely" is less definite and unconditional than "absolute". It seems that "более чем нет" does not possess the finiteness of absolutely ))
