Spanish term

tirarte de culipatines

Spanish to English Art/Literary General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters

Discussion

margaret caulfield Jan 7, 2010:
Leonardo, I assume you mean your "apologies" to Silvia and not your "excuses"?
Don't worry, I was busy and didn't even see it.
Leonardo Lamarche Jan 7, 2010:
Silvia's answer. My excuses to Silvia.
margaret caulfield Jan 7, 2010:
Leonardo, USING Silvia? I think not!!!
Leonardo Lamarche Jan 7, 2010:
Katya, Using Silvia, I believe a board sled is better.

slide on your bottom

I found this on the following, rather nice link:

Aconcagua, Mendoza: Excursión al mirador del Aconcagua
Paseos y excursiones, English ...

I know "tirarse" does not particularly mean "slide", but I don't think any other word could describe it better in this context.
Peer comment(s):

agree Christine Walsh : I think you've got it- unless there's a board between the mud and the child's bottom.

Thanks, Chris! Going from the mother's conversation, I think exactly this!
agree David Ronder : A lot of this going on in London at the moment (snow + ice everywhere!)

Thanks, David! I hope you don't have any small children!!!!
agree Jenny Westwell : With Margaret: this is all about what small children can do with mud (to annoy their mothers), in this case, get the seat of his trousers covered in it!

Thanks, la acequiera! They love doing this!

snow sled riding

In fact it is not "culipatines" but "culopatines". These are the plastic sleds (sometimes nylon bags) which are used to go down hill on the snow.

go down with a board slider

culipatines is a slide board (for snow and probably in muddy down hill) called like that in Argentina.

buttboard downhill

I believe Margaret has the right meaning. This could be an option if there's a board between the child and the mud!

These boards were first made at home, but are now factory produced.
