Spanish term

muslitos de mar

Spanish to English Other Food & Drink Supermarket products
I have a photo of the product package: these are those weird crab-flavoured "thighs" you can buy frozen that have a little crab claw sticking out of the end, sort of like a crab nugget in breadcrumbs with a crab claw handle, so to speak, which they sell in frozen food departments in supermarkets all over Spain. I am not sure whether I can call them "crab thighs" since the name in Spanish implies that perhaps the only real crab in them is the claw sticking out, or at least that they will contain other fishy ingredients. "seafood thighs" sounds odd. What do you think?
UK Eng please, and thanks very much in advance for your input. Much appreciated.

I think you're right, Kate. Sorry!
Kate Major Patience (asker) Feb 9, 2010:
Title length Sorry- I should've mentioned that the name cannot be too long, since it's for a supermarket magazine and we have format issues. Thanks for your help so far everyone- really helpful.

Note from asker:
That will probably do very nicely Lydia: do you think it's OK to call them "crab claws" despite the doubts about the actual crab content? I suppose since it's at least true of the "claw" bit of the product... Thanks.

agree Sonia Hill : "breaded crab flavour claws" or "breaded surimi crab claws" is what I would use

crab nuggets / crab sticks

I don't mean to copy your own version, Kate, buit I do like the "snappy" sound of "crab nuggets". I found "crab sticks" elsewhere.
Note from asker:
Hi Margaret! Crab nuggets might work well, but aren't crab sticks something quite different (those crab flavoured pink sticks you sometimes find in salads)? Thanks!

crab drumsticks

I know the little suckers you mean exactly. Never eaten 'em though!

This term came to me owing to the fact it's not real crab meat.

Fairly decent google hits...

I reckon'drumsticks' came to mind because, to me, it has a certain 'artificial' feel to it when associated with food. When I think 'chicken drumstick', I think 'artificial chicken' almost!

How about 'Crab Claw Drumsticks', haha; it's a tough call alright. Have just seen this link: http://www.kamifood.com/valued_added_processed_seafood which lists 'Breaded Crab Claw' and 'Crab Drumsticks'... and it would seem 'Breaded Crab Claw' would be the better choice based on the actual crab claw on display... certainly 'sounds' better too, which is what the company will want - they're trying to sell their product at the end of the day...

Chicken, Turkey, Fish or whatever 'Drumsticks' - ¡qué asco!
Note from asker:
Yeah, they're grim. ;D
Nice links! I'm torn between this and the "breaded crab claws" which also works fine. On the subject of "drumsticks", yes: I see fake weird turkey "drummers" and hear the word "bootiful" from those cringeworthy old ads...
