Engineering (general)
The starting turbine is protected from excessive speed by a mechanical overspeed bolt and trip assembly. If its overspeed bolt has tripped switch, which is mounted to the assembly, this causes an alarm.

boulon
How Does An Over Speed Trip Work?
The design of an over speed trip consists of a heavy bolt with a comparatively heavy head. The bolt is fitted at the forward end of the engine shaft where no engine torque is transmitted and is bored throughout the diameter of the shaft. Just like any other conventional bolt, the over speed trip bolt is held in place by using a nut and a spring.

Discussion
"One aspect of mechanical hydraulic control is the use of an overspeed bolt and trip finger. The latter comprised a shaft mounted bolt, spring biased in the radial direction, which would emerge from the rotor in the radial direction as speed increased until it actuated a trip finger or trip lever to cause the turbine valves to trip close."
