: If it doesn't mean this, then maybe it isn't Italian (a livello di Italiano, ovviamente).

: "A livello scolastico" come grado di preparazione si usa per le lingue, non per gli sport, quindi tradurrei così anch'io

at an amateur level
livello scolastico obviously just means scholastic level, but the point here is that the level is amateur and not professional.

And that's the thing too; you don't know at which school level e.g. high-school, middle school and certainly not university- b/c they do not have university sports. Amateur is the best way, given the context we have, to translate this.

: What "point" where? Logically, I don't go to school therefore I am a professional player? And "in schools" or "at school level" won't work just as well, apart from being more accurate?

that's a good point Jim. I just think, given the lack of context, amateur will work no matter what.

Discussion
I've thought about it and I have finally decided that IN SCHOOLS is the correct translation. I mean, I think it's the most correct translation. We're talking about vollyball played at school, so "school level" as I have thought before or "in schools" can express the concept very well.
Yes, "at an amateur level" doesn't mean volleyball played at school, as you said before. Thank you so much!
Have a look here at lo sport scolastico:

"at an amateur level" could be the right translation.
What do you think?
-nationwide
-worldwide
-"a livello scolastico"
This is the context. :)
