Spanish to English Other Environment & Ecology Rice Production
This is from a Uruguayan newspaper article about rice production and environmental protection for bird life in Uruguay.

I understand the meaning here, but am struggling to find a natural sounding equivalent in English.

Here's the context:

"Los cultivos de arroz en el país utilizan procedimientos de producción amigables con el ambiente que se emplean para promocionar sus negocios en el exterior.

El cuidado del entono se destaca como una ventaja comparativa frente a otros países que usan mayor cantidad de químicos en la producción."

My effort so far:

"Uruguayan rice growers employ environmentally friendly production processes in order to promote their businesses abroad.

These common protective measures give them a comparative edge over other countries, who use more chemicals in their production processes."

Indeed, Patricia. Today was —most definitely— one of those days (because of the deadline). It was great to receive such a rapid response from everyone, and hats off colleagues for sticking to your guns!

I was slightly panicking actually, as I was coming from the standpoint that the customer is always right, given the term had supposedly been ‘confirmed’ via the end client, and all that jazz; so I just wasn’t thinking straight. Meanwhile, the clock was ticking away...

Yes,am feeling rather sheepish about it all myself What really threw me was contacting the agency earlier, who 'confirmed' entonar with the client (of course, when I spoke to the client directly, they hadn't actually contacted him!).

Regardless, I should have been able to figure it out from the context (which seems so blatantly obvious now), but was in a bit of a flap earlier because of the deadline.

Again, thanks to one and all for your help. And yes, Jenni, lots of great translations to choose from! :)

James, Oh yes! It certaintly exists in the sense of "intonation"! But not in this context. I'm glad you finally sorted it out with your client!

It was a (darn) typo!! Have just spoken with the author, and he rather sheepishly informed me that it was indeed a typo. I should have contacted him in the first place... (or should've been able to figure it out without doing so). Sorry about that everyone. And thanks for your help.

The word "entono" still doesn't fit here.... ...as a noun. Think about the phrase "cuidado del entono." If you parse the meaning, I think you arrive at sheer nonsense. I think that "entono" here is a typographical error.

Having offered a "more holistic approach" in view of your client's comments about "entono / entonar", I'd like to share the only reference I could find to entono, that I found in Maria Moliner. I think the client has coined a new use. FYI for word buffs, Moliner gives: "entono - cualidad, situación o actitud de entonado" For entonado the book gives: 1"participio pasado de entonar(se) or as an adjective, 2"de elevada posición social, encombrado, 3 engreído u orgulloso, 4 pedante 5 borracho. With all those possibilities as a verb form or an adjective, why not launch a noun?

James, "Entono" as a word simply doesn't exist. All you have to do is read the rest of the sentence and you'll see how clear it is that this is "entorno", especially when it states that this is compared with other countries that use more chemicals in manufacturing. It simply can't be anything other than "entorno"!

what the client confirmed is really surprising given that "entorno" is often used synonymously with "medioambiente" and the phrase "cuadado del entorno" is extremely common -- 107,000 hits

ENTONAR Hi Liz, that was my initial thought, but I contacted the client who confirmed it is the verb ENTONAR, as in, to sing from the same song-sheet, to sing in tune, to match, etc.
