Spanish term

cambio de tercio

Spanish to English Art/Literary Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting
This phrase, which I discovered has to do with bullfighting, is used metaphorically in this sentence, but I cannot figure out what it is trying to say:

Su cambio de tercio respecto al objeto y al concepto de exhibición se produce en 1967.

Thanks

Leonardo, thank u
:)
Leonardo Lamarche May 4, 2010:
MPGS, I was referring to your words emphatic, dramatic, shift. I meant to say that those words can be used for a bullfight change of act as they are used in operas, plays, concerts. But that's their only similarity. I hope I explained myself better this time.
MPGS May 4, 2010:
Leonardo, dear colleague i'm afraid i can't be the judge of where similarities end
:)
Leonardo Lamarche May 4, 2010:
MPGS, That's quite correct. That's why in english the term act is used (like in an opera, concert, play; of course that's where similarities end).
MPGS May 4, 2010:
en cada cambio de tercio ... ... tocan la trompeta (y -creo- redoblan el tambor.

It's an emphasized, dramatic, shift.

:)
lorenab23 May 4, 2010:
Cambio the tercio As explained in this link, it is simply a shift...as when you move from one topic to another
"En el lenguaje coloquial usamos la expresión cambio de tercio cuando dejamos de ocuparnos de un asunto para pasar a otro".

I meant what comes before and after this sentence. It's hard to give an appropriate translation without having some context.
Wendy Gosselin (asker) May 4, 2010:
That's the entire sentence and it beginnings the paragraph. I am not sure if it's a dramatic change or slight shift, or..?
philgoddard May 4, 2010:
Could we have some more context please? What comes before and after this?

Yes, I was vaguely aware of the bullfighting origin - but it's a common enough expression in its figurative usage.

different perspective

As you state, term is related to a bullfigth. There is three steps (momentos) during bullfigth.

a) Primer tercio where a Capote confronts the bull.

b) Segundo tercio where horses and banderillas: se pica el toro. (in order to stimulate his bravura).
c) Faena and if applicable killing. (faena y matar)

There is three circles on the plaza, the closes you go to the center danger rices.
Regarding art it might be talking about to change of position regarding a point, the way you will have a different perspective.
