Italian term

incauto affidamento

Italian to English Law/Patents Insurance
this is a legal term requiring a precise translation. You are guilty of "incauto affidamento", for instance, if you leave your car in the "safekeeping" of an illegal parking attendant and the car isn't there when you come back.

Discussion

Cedric Randolph May 26, 2010:
No references I've come up with a couple of possibilities, even though this isn't often a problem outside of Italy, unless in the 3rd world, where there usually aren't any laws regulating such things in any case: I'll throw them out there just for the sake of providing assistance. I believe that here the definition and translation need to be of a groundbreaking nature for the reasons cited.

negligent entrustment

but the term usually impies that your action created a risk of harm to others. If that is not your case, then the term "careless" might be more appropriate.

The term negligent does imply a tort so it really depends on the context here. One might prefer to use something like "undue reliance" which sufficiently conveys the meaning: you unduly left your property with another.

That is "carelessly handing over one's vehicle for safekeeping"
