French term

S/C

French to English Law/Patents Law (general)
This is a term used in references in parentheses within a written submission/brief. Each time it is followed by something like "emails de ABC" or PV du Conseil d'Administration du 1 novembre 2005". What does S/C stand for? None of the defnitions in the glossary or former Kudoz entries seems to apply here (e.g., care of, to the attention of).

Thanks in advance!

Discussion

Germaine A Hoston (asker) Jul 30, 2010:
I'm thinking it means Exhibit No. So I could just translate S/C as Exhibit, so it would be Exhibit No. -- what do you think?
Claire Nolan Jul 28, 2010:
Germaine, This will not help with the answer, but I found a list of items preceded by ''S/C'' on page 10 of this document. They are ''jugement'', ''arrêt'', ''lettre'', ''attestation'', etc.:
http://collectifpah.free.fr/textes/N083.pdf

Still can't figure out what it means, though. ''Refer to'' makes sense, but that's ''Cf'', as mimi pointed out.
Germaine A Hoston (asker) Jul 28, 2010:
The most complete example I have is a quotation, "Je dois reflechire a l'engagement de ne pas vendre avant la fin the 2001, mais je ne pense pas que cela s'applique a mes options." (S/C D 2963/8). Other examples are simply such quotations with (S/C email du 1 novembre 2000), etc.
Chris Hall Jul 28, 2010:
IMO... To gain any reliable answers, we need more to go on than what has been provided thus far.
Fabrizio Zambuto Jul 28, 2010:
can't you give an example without quoting names? as far as you don't quote the name of the company or people...

namely (scilicet in Latin)

Low confidence because scilicet is usually abbreviated ''sc''. Also, does not make a huge amount of sense.

- scilicet: à savoir, nommément.
Dans l'exemple: Paris:sc Lassalle, on commence par donner le lieu de l'édition: Paris, puis le " sc" précise qu'on va nommer quelqu'un.

sous la cote

Perhaps? On the basis of the following:

Elle relève également que sur la cote de plaidoiries numéro 4, dactylographiée, a été ajouté sous la phrase « le groupe Canal+ a connu d'importantes difficultés financières le contraignant à mettre en place un plan de sauvegarde de l'emploi (PSE) » la mention manuscrite suivante : "s/c PSE page 24 à 26 (pièce 22)". Or sous cette cote est jointe une pièce non numérotée correspondant aux pages 23 à 30 du document ont intitulé «plan stratégique de relance».

Note from asker:
I've just provided within the question some examples (they always follow a point made in the brief). "S/C" introduces a reference each time. I can't give any more context giventhe requiremets of confidentiality.
