The subject of this book // The subject of the present study

...depending on the the exact nature of this work (which you only identify as "resembling a biography").

It might also be viable to simply use the subject's name as a Section header, or to write something like:

The life of X OR Who was X? (again, depending on what follows).

I cannot imagine any context, however, in which "Our Character" would constitute idiomatic English.
