English term

Level Pouching Surface

English to French Medical Medical: Health Care Stomathérapie
Proposed translations (French)
4 Stomie à fleur de peau

Discussion

Soizic CiFuentes (asker) Oct 25, 2010:
Stomie à fleur de peau = skin-level stoma.

Alors que là, on parle du champ protecteur autour de la poche, de l'appareillage (Pouching).
Soizic CiFuentes (asker) Oct 24, 2010:
Well, what I am translating is an analysis of the survey, so I am not seeing all the questions, but a sample of questions. For exemple:
participants were presented with the statement, “Relevance/importance in assessing patient’s stoma type in choosing a pouch type” (ie, drainable, closed end, and urostomy) and asked to rate level of agreement with the relevance (importance on a scale of 1 to 4 where 1 = Not relevant/Not important and 4 = Very relevant/very important). So, yes it is the general idea.

So, the table shows how the participants rated individual component ratings, but not the questions and answers.
This is why I am having trouble with the term.

Right, so it sounds as if... ... they are being asked to rate how satisfactorily level the pouching surface is, with a score from (sa)y 'not level at all' to 'very nice and level'?

Is that the general idea?
Soizic CiFuentes (asker) Oct 24, 2010:
It is in the table as part of elements to rate for nurses. It is not an instruction at all. It is an item to be rated. It is a pouching system for managing a fecal or urinary stoma that is placed on a patient who had an ostomy.
I believe that it is something like "Plaque adhésive ou d'adhésion de la poche", that surrounds the stoma. But, it still does a leveling job somehow.
Tony M Oct 24, 2010:
It might help... ..if you could explain what the table of which this is the heading contains?

I wouldn't naturally have assumed it to mean the height of the pouch: in that event, I'd have expected the word order to have been 'pouching surface level'.

It sounds at first reading as if this is an instruction to level the pouching surface, but it might also be describing that the pouching surface is level. I would tend towards the former interpretation, except that it's hard to see what an instruction like that would be doing in a table heading?

Hence why knowing what is actually in the table will probably help to resolve this ambiguity.
Soizic CiFuentes (asker) Oct 24, 2010:
Voici plus de contexte. Level Pouching Surface” (the area surrounding the stoma where the skin barrier will adhere)

Stomie à fleur de peau

Évidemment, il faut voir le contexte, mais je suis convaincue que c'est l'idée de départ.
