Italian term

mappa professionale

Italian to English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general) Company structure
"Mappe Professionali" is the name of a particular division within a company structure. What does it mean?

Discussion

Deborah Cornwell-Kelly Dec 14, 2010:
Tempting to say careers office, or similar, or is it some kind of organigramma-producing office? what kind of company is it?
Denise DeVries Dec 13, 2010:
yes, it's there mappa professionale was one of the links on the left
Tom in London (asker) Dec 13, 2010:
No No more context I'm afraid - it's just a list of departmental headings.
Ivana UK Dec 13, 2010:
Not quite what you're looking for though Tom. Maybe it's the dept. that drafts the mappe professionali (which basically seem to be a list of duties, targets and roles and responsibilities of the job).

any more context/info?
Ivana UK Dec 13, 2010:
Couple of references to mappa prof. here (pdf file)

L'utilizzo della ''mappa professionale'' nella selezione (esterna e interna), nei sistemi di valutazione, nella definizione dei fabbisogni formativi, nei processi di mobilità (orizzontale e verticale).

and a full mappa professionale (word doc) here - basically just a table

Tom in London (asker) Dec 13, 2010:
Nope Sorry Denise, I did find that link with Google myself but there is in fact NO instance of "mappa professionale" when you go to the page.
Denise DeVries Dec 13, 2010:
in context Here is an instance in which this term is used:
http://www.europcar.it/EBE/module/render/Mappa-professionale
More on google.
I hope this helps.
DCypher (X) Dec 13, 2010:
could this be a role within HR with responsibility for professional development and/or for defining the objectives and required skills/experience for individuals, departments or professional families?
Tom in London (asker) Dec 13, 2010:
so... ... I'll take that as a "no".
Chiara Beltrami Dec 13, 2010:
Mappe Professionali doesn't point out a single unit in a company structure. We don't use this expression in any case. If you want to specify a single unit you must refer to the particular job of it. They are business units such as Human Resources, Legal, Marketing and so on.
Tom in London (asker) Dec 13, 2010:
question Chiara: do you mean that the Mappe Professionali section deals with the management of branches of the company?
Tom in London (asker) Dec 13, 2010:
more context the other departments are called things like Risorse Umane, Amministrazione e finanza, and so on.

Branch is a company's subsidiary. See above for the right term we use to specify a single unit. Business unit, as Mappe Professionali isn't used either in colloquial or formal Italian.
Note from asker:
How do you get to "branch" as a translation of "Mappe Professionali"?

Could be a poor rendering of this concept in Italian

Peer comment(s):

agree Deborah Cornwell-Kelly : that sounds suitably roundabout, a nice English to Italian back to English banana-skin - I would go for this one
