Transcript - type or form of a university course
This is how courses are delivered at a national defence institute. I have never seen anything like that in regular transcripts. It is accompanied by regular lectures, seminars, classes, tutorials, and so on. With the meagre context given, I thought I should ask someone who has translated that phrase before...

recitation class
Basically, recitation classes are for courses with a large class size or complicated material (like math or science). Usually these classes will have 1 professor and several student teachers. The professor will teach the large class (also called the Lecture) and cover new material. The student teachers will teach the recitation classes and go over the week's material in more detail. Because there is often a lot of material to cover in the large class, there isn't a lot of time to go over specifics or answer questions. The recitation class gives you the opportunity to address any questions or issues in a smaller classroom environment. Also, quizzes and homework are frequently given &/or collected during the recitation class...

recitation class is not just a rehash of the lecture but an opportunity for the students to grapple with problems they may not thoroughly understand, to broaden their knowledge of concepts understood the first time, and to give them some practice in applying the things they have learned.

At many universities the lectures are large and students don't have an opportunity to ask many questions.
The recitations are done with smaller groups -- so the students can get more individual attention. In addition, in math or science classes, time can be spent working out solutions to problems, rather than spent on theory (which is usually done in the main class).

Note from asker:
I think the answer you gave previously (class) http://www.proz.com/kudoz/polish_to_english/education_pedagogy/3911156-%C4%87wiczenia_audytoryjne.html is completely accurate and I'm going to add it to the glossary. Thank you. |

Comment: "Thank you. This is a broader term which you offered a few months earlier and fits the bill."

If classes are accompanied by lectures, I'd go for the following: wykład - lecture, ćwiczenia - recitation class. If classes are not accompanied by lectures, I'd just use "CLASS."
I believe recitation or preceptorial classes could be used as a broader term and language class as a specific form of it. In a language class, groups would usually tend to be smaller and teaching methods used might take a variety of forms: oral or written drills, guided conversations, Q&As, guided writing, etc. etc.
In contrast, language lab would use specialized audio/A&V equipment with individual boxes for students.
Ćwiczenia audytoryjne rozwijają i ilustrują zagadnienia poruszane w ramach wykładu. Ćwiczenia audytoryjne (np. matematyka, ekonomia) prowadzone są w grupach około 30 osobowych.
